We love because He first loved us

Dearest family, friends and faithful supporters in Jesus Christ; thank you so very much for all your prayers for our team’s behalf during this STM. We have felt and experienced your prayers daily, as God has protected our team throughout the trip. It is good to know that we are all joined together as a family because of Christ.

One of the things which stood out for me throughout this STM was the remoteness of the communities we visited. Some were high up on the mountains, literally in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by trees and more trees. One community was completely inaccessible by car and we had to carry all the equipment on foot 30 minutes into the jungle (and we had to walk back too!). A snippet of one passage of scripture came to mind; “..and nothing can ever separate us from the love of God”. How true this is! As far into the forest these communities lived, God knows them, God provides for them and God loves them, just as He loves and provides for you and me.

One of the main aims for each member of our team this week was, no matter where we were in our spiritual journey, to love Jesus more at the end of the STM than at the beginning. We wanted to understand in our minds, and be convicted in our hearts, of one thing; that according to the Bible, God does not desire to love us unilaterally, but desires for us to love Him back, to be in a love relationship with Him. When Jesus was asked what the number one most important thing for anyone to do on this earth was, He replied, “the most important one is, love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind and with all your strength” (Mark 12:29-30). Jesus wants us to love Him back! Of course, God initiated loving us first (1 John 4:19), but it’s a love relationship with you and me that He desires. When we think of our most precious earthly relationships, such as between spouses or between parent and child, we begin to understand this better; we give all of our love to our spouses or children, and we hope that they love us back!!

So the question before us all is; what is holding you back from loving God right now? The answer to this question and your response will enable you to love Jesus more than you do now. Is it Netflix? Is it video games? Is it social media? Is it your work? Is it your intentional disobedience regarding a repetitive sin? Is it your passivity? Is it your hypocrisy? Regardless of where your love relationship is with God right now, Jesus wants you and me to love Him more…….more at the end of the year, month, week or day, than at the beginning. This is God’s most important, numero uno (si, es Español) thing for you and me to do. Jesus orders this for us, and we should really listen to our Creator, our God, our Saviour, our King and our Master……and prioritize our lives to obey this first and foremost, and to our utmost. And when we do so, we will deepen our love relationship with Jesus, we will love Him more and more. And this my friends, will radically and completely transform your life……into living life to the full, according to God’s good, pleasing and perfect will for you and for me.

Blessings, William
